Sensei Au Hii & Sensei Daniel Sharp
Daniel Sharp & Au Hii
Daniel and Au have trained together for 30 years under the tuition of Brian Mackie Hanshi starting in 1996. In 2017 they began their teaching journey with the passion to pass on all they have learned and in the hope to help students discover their best self. Au and Daniel both hold 4th Dan black-belts and are current State referees for the WA Karate Federation. Both instructors continue to actively train with Brian Mackie Hanshi and have also travelled to Japan to train under Goshi Yamaguchi, Grand Master of the International Goju-Kai Karate-do Association.

No. Our beginner-friendly classes are designed to teach you everything from the ground up.

Just comfortable clothes (track pants and a t-shirt). Your free uniform will be provided when you sign up as a member.

Yes. There is very limited contact for children, and the classes focus on learning control in throwing techniques in a safe and supportive environment.

About Us
Founded by Grand Master Gogen Yamaguchi, IKGA promotes Gojuryu Karatedo worldwide. Now led by Grand Master Goshi Yamaguchi, it continues to uphold its rich traditions.
Our Heritage
Goju-kai Karate-do blends traditional Okinawan martial arts with Chinese Nanpa Kenjutsu from Fuchien province, China, integrating hard and soft techniques for strength, flexibility, and controlled breathing.
Global Presence
IKGA spans six continents, with Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi training instructors and members worldwide. Practitioners are welcome to visit the Hombu (Headquarters) in Japan to deepen their connection with the art.

Director of I.K.G.A. for Australia and Oceania, Brian has been teaching at the Karate-Do Goju-Kai Academy of Japan in Perth since 1966.
Undiminished dedication
Instructing 15 classes a week Brian’s passion for karate is matched only by his love of teaching. Brian is privileged to have been instructed by World renowned Japanese masters and be one of the few Western Karate-ka to have been personally graded to 8th Dan Hanshi ranking. Brian was a founder member and President of the Australian Karate Federation WA. He was responsible for writing the original Level 1 and 2 N.C.A.S. training manuals and was appointed permanent Technical Advisor for the A.K.F. Bringing the Best to Perth. Brian has hosted both the Asian Pacific and World IKGA Championships in Perth bringing the world’s leading karate exponents and coaches to Perth.
